Pre-Election Push: Dems Force Liberalism Before Being Kicked Out

Pre-Election Push: Dems Force Liberalism Before Being Kicked Out

The Democratic National Committee is ramping up its efforts to elevate abortion legislation in states controlled by Republicans to the forefront of voters’ minds as the 2024 election draws near.

According to CBS News, citing a party memo that was circulated this week—the second anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade—the DNC has committed to investing $8.3 million across all 50 state parties for 2024 and more than $1 million to battleground states to refine their abortion messaging.

“As we commemorate the 2nd anniversary of Dobbs, our endeavor to galvanize voters persists both now and all the way until November,” stated Rosemary Boeglin, director of communications for the Democratic National Committee, in a memo. “Electing Democrats at all levels of government, including President Biden and VP Harris, is the sole path forward for restoring and expanding reproductive liberties for women.”

Democrat strategists are “creating infrastructure in conservative states to fight back against these prohibitions,” the letter claims. The “Red State Fund,” a component of that infrastructure, will aim to give voters pro-abortion materials and put Democrats on the attack in states that lean Republican. Based on CBS News’ reporting, the DNC contributed $4.5 million to the “Red State Fund” for the years 2023 and 2024.

The DNC document also made fun of Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee, saying that he backs a nationwide ban on abortion. But in April, Trump stated that he would not, if re-elected, impose a nationwide ban on abortion. Additionally, the ex-president raised concerns about Florida’s six-week abortion restrictions and Arizona’s nearly complete prohibition on abortion.

As President Biden’s approval ratings hit a new low and his poll numbers remain dismal, Democrats have made it clear that they intend to use the 2024 race to refocus voters’ attention on abortion. Since the reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, the pro-choice camp has won every ballot question pertaining to abortion, even in Republican areas.

Democrats are ramping up their abortion rhetoric as Biden falls behind Trump in key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan. The president attacked Trump and conservatives on Monday, accusing them of supporting “extremism” in their stance on abortion.

The 45-second short piece featured Biden’s promise to battle tirelessly to restore Roe v. Wade and safeguard American freedom if he returned to the White House.

Less than half a year before the election, Democrats are still harping on abortion, yet Americans have repeatedly named the economy, inflation, and immigration as the most pressing problems confronting the nation. The majority of voters in battleground states identified the economy as the top issue leading up to the election, with the majority stating that the economy is in “pretty bad” or “extremely terrible” form, according to an April CBS News/YouGov poll.
