Don’t look now, but NBC Nightly News has all but admitted that President Trump’s concerns about mail-in voting have some merit.

Tuesday’s broadcast featured a nearly three-minute-long segment focusing on how disastrous the absentee ballot system is in New York, as the outcome of a Democratic congressional primary race is still up in the air 6 weeks after polls closed, according to Media Research Center.

“Tonight, six weeks after the New York Democratic primary, congressional candidate Raj Patel doesn’t know if he won or lost,” NBC correspondent Cynthia McFadden told viewers. “Because election officials have yet to announce a winner.”

The network’s senior investigative and legal correspondent then explained why.

“The reason? Ten times more New Yorkers — a whopping 1.8 million — requested absentee ballots than did four years ago. Experts tell NBC News New York election officials were woefully unprepared,” McFadden said.

Not surprisingly, Media Research Center noted that the NBC News story marked “the first time any weekday broadcast network evening newscast dedicated airtime to New York’s bungled election.”

Once a Republican advantage, Democrats have been pushing the vote by mail option hard in the past couple of election cycles and the campaign has produced results — to apparently include undesired results.

McFadden reported that Gov. Andrew Cuomo contributed to the fiasco.

“Governor Andrew Cuomo had tried to make the process easier by sending postage-paid envelopes with all requested ballots,” she reports. “But that ended up backfiring. Because to be counted, ballots need to be postmarked with a date. Something the post office doesn’t usually do for prepaid metered mail. So those ballots, thousands of them, were not counted.”

As noted, Patel trails by 3,700 votes and the election is now in the hands of the courts, as a battle ensues over ballots not counted.

Trump has been critical of nationwide mail-in voting in the presidential election as a result of the pandemic, which would entail mass mailing of tens of millions of ballots to registered voters. The liberal media are conflating this with absentee ballots, the difference being that in most states, voters must officially request an absentee ballot.

In an earlier segment, NBC White House correspondent Geoff Bennett talked about how Trump has “continued his unfounded attacks on voting by mail.”

“New York election officials say they were doing their best under difficult circumstances, McFadden said. “But that hasn’t stopped President Trump, a critic of mail-in voting, from using the New York election mess to make his point.”

She would go on to ask, “So what does this primary fiasco mean for November, when 50 million to 80 million Americans are expected to vote by mail?”

One possibility is that the outcome of the presidential election could also end up in the courts, and considering the plethora of liberal judges, it may help explain why Speaker Nancy Pelosi so doggedly pursues nationwide mail-in voting.

As for the New York congressional race, the outcome may not be known for another week, the reporter noted, and may ultimately end up in the hands of the US Supreme Court.
