Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) got a lot of criticism after her interference contributed to steering Amazon away from bringing 25,000 jobs to New York City and deciding instead to locate their company headquarters in Virginia.

And now there’s more news that isn’t going to go over well in NYC, who’s already mad at the freshman Congress woman over that move.

Amazon coming to Virginia has led to a housing boom in the Arlington area.

From Conservative Tribune:

Buyers and sellers in the Arlington housing market have been scrambling to lock up properties in anticipation of Amazon’s new headquarters, which will welcome its newest workers in June, Axios reported.

David Howell, executive vice president at McEnearney Associates, described the phenomenon as a “boomlet” since Amazon announced its new location.

“I’ve been studying this market for 35 years, and I’ve never seen a circumstance like this one,” Howell said.

Buyers have been so eager to purchase homes around Amazon’s new location that homeowners are putting up “no-solicitation” signs. A similar boom could have occurred in New York City, but Ocasio-Cortez and other lawmakers spoiled the company’s plans to build there.

The jobs and the boom could have come to New York City who surely could have used it.

But Amazon specifically noted the negative attacks of Ocasio-Cortez and others in deciding to go elsewhere.

Ocasio-Cortez actually celebrated the company backing out, claiming they would have exploited workers and that the tax breaks they would have gotten could now be used for other things (not seeming to understand that tax breaks aren’t fungible money that can be transferred elsewhere).

Ocasio-Cortez argued that there was no guarantee that they were going to give the jobs to New Yorkers.

But as Amazon notes in Virginia, they are hiring people in the local area. “We plan to hire people who live here so the impact on the region will be minimal,” they said in a statement.

And as the housing boom shows, there are all the positive effects on the economy that come as a result of their presence, all the increased economic activity that their presence brings with them, in addition to the jobs.

And this isn’t good for Ocasio-Cortez, because a lot of locals were upset with her over the loss of the opportunity.

A recent poll found that only 9 percent of Ocasio-Cortez’s constituents support her position on Amazon, while 20 percent hold a “favorable” opinion of the self-identified socialist. Forty-four percent of said voters hold an unfavorable opinion.
