Considering that Democrats are not expecting to get GOP support for Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief package, there is growing calls to force all sorts of radical agendas into the bill, which is almost positively going to be shoved through Congress using reconciliation.
That could lead to climate radicals getting their way, a $15-per-hour minimum wage, new “social justice” rules, and a plethora of other far-left proposals that Americans never asked for.
But the biggest thing being sneaked into the relief bill by Democrats is citizenship for illegals. A hundred Dems led by the Hispanic Caucus sent a letter to the House leadership requesting that “Dreamers, undocumented essential workers, and temporary protected recipients” be allowed a path to citizenship in the new bill.
President Biden’s immigration proposals are mostly stalled in the Senate — unless the reconciliation process is used to gain success. Even with that, the path ahead might be blocked by Dems like Krysten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin of West Virginia who have both been against a path-to-citizenship for illegals.
But moderate Democrats may give in if they believe pandemic relief won’t pass otherwise. They might also hesitate to go up against a Democratic president’s agenda right after he took office.
Politico reports that legalizing DREAMers, “essential workers,” TPS recipients, and their relatives, would lead to 5 million undocumented workers getting a path to citizenship. And that’s just the start. Allowing in everyone who began crossing the southern border when Biden was elected will enlarge that number very significantly.
