Biden’s Press Secretary Jen Psaki is making it clear that the President looks forward to repealing “liability shields” that guard gun companies from frivolous lawsuits.
The AP did an analysis of gun control in Washington DC, with H.R. 1446 and H.R. 8 both having passed in the Senate and the House.
H.R. 8 would enact universal background checks, criminalizing private sales through an expansion of background checks. H.R. 1446 would lengthen the period of time the FBI has for an extended background check. With the current time being three business days. H.R. 1446 would bring that to at minimum 10 days.
The AP quoted Press Secretary Psaki’s comments on gun control and her promise that President Joe Biden is looking forward “to advancing gun control priorities.”
She then said Biden’s plans include “repealing gun makers’ liability shields.”
On February 24, 2020, some outlets reported on one of Biden’s campaign stops in South Carolina wherein he spoke to gun manufacturers and threatened them by saying “I’m going to take you down.”
He made this comment after mentioning a decades old law that was created to protect gun makers from lawsuits in situations where their guns were legally made and sold.
