Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has said during a Sunday interview on Fox News that there is a “large criminal investigation happening” into former President Trump and his possible role in causing the events on January 6 at the Capitol.
When she was asked if she would vote to convict President Trump, the lawmaker said, “If I was a member of the Senate, I would take the evidence into account. That is the role Senators have as jurors. I would also say that the Senate trial is only a snapshot. There is a large criminal investigation happening. There will be a massive investigation into everything that happened on Jan. 6 and leading up to it.”
She went on, “People will want to know what Trump was doing. They will wonder, for example, if his tweet calling VP Pence a coward while the attack was happening, whether that tweet was a premeditated effort to illicit violence. There are many questions that need to be answered, and there will be many criminal investigations analyzing every aspect and everyone who was involved.”
She added, “We have never witnessed that type of attack by a president on congress, and that must never happen again.”
