The 75th anniversary of D-Day has been marked with a series of solemn commemorations both in the United Kingdom and in France. However, even as we remember one of the gravest hours in human history, there are still moments for levity.

Thomas Cuthbert, a 93-year-old British D-Day veteran, provided just one of those moments on Wednesday.

“A flirty D-Day veteran brought laughter to commemorations when he cheekily told Donald Trump that if ‘only he was 20 years younger’ while pointing to the First Lady,” Yahoo News reported.

Trump’s response? “You could handle it, no question about it,” he said.

Before the remark, Trump said, “It’s my honor, believe me, thank you very much” upon meeting Cuthbert.

The encounter came during a meet-and-greet after an hour-long event in Portsmouth, England, honoring those who stormed the beaches on D-Day, according to The Sun.

President Trump performed a reading at the event.

And, according to Cuthbert — who lives in Essex — Trump “came across very well.”

“He surprised me, when you see someone on the TV but he seemed different, he seemed one of the boys,” Cuthbert said.

“His wife was very pleasant as well.”

Oh, I’m sure.

“Mr. Cuthbert was awarded the Legion D’Honneur in May 2017 for his role in the D-Day landings during which he served on a landing barge oiler anchored offshore from Utah and Omaha beaches,” the U.K. Metro noted.

Cuthbert also got some news time when Prince Charles, who also served in the Royal Navy, noted how horrible the sea-sickness must have been.

“Referring to a segment of the commemorations that highlighted the conditions the men had to endure on the vessels heading to Normandy, the prince told Mr. Cuthbert: ‘As they were saying the smell of the fuel and people being sick must have been terrible,’” the Metro reported.

“I remember being in the navy and always being sick, and there was always someone who was never sick and would always appear with a mug of steaming soup,” Charles said.

Well, thank God, there wasn’t any need to invade France during Prince Charles’ time in the Royal Navy. However. It does demonstrate the difference between the first part of Trump’s visit to the D-Day commemorations and the end of it.

At the beginning, we had protesters. We had a Twitter row between London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Trump, a stupid balloon and coverage about how the Britishers weren’t taking to the president.

In the end, we got something different.

Whether or not that gets coverage is another matter, but it’s the real story.
